Mare’s Head Mountain

In Ilovlinskiy district of the Volgograd region, on the territory of the Donskoy Nature Park the chalk mountain with the name “Krasnaya” (red) is situated. The locals call it “Mare’s head” (rus. Kobyliya golova) as the mountain resembles the head of a horse.

Mare’s Head Mountain can be compared in its geologic and geomorphologic structure with the chalk cliffs of La Manche Channel. It is a unique natural zone and a part of the Ilovlinskie Chalk Mountains which are considered to be the highest chalk mountains in Europe. On the top of the mountain you can enjoy the panoramic views of the Don river and surrounding territory.
